Emergency Services & Trauma Care

Emergency Care

At one time or another, every family needs emergency medical services. And when your child is sick or injured, the closer the hospital is to home, the better. That’s why Covenant Children’s built the region’s only dedicated emergency center for children.

We’re open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and always staffed by physicians and registered nurses specially trained in pediatric emergency care. In addition, everything in our facility, from the equipment in patient rooms to the medical technology we use, is designed to meet the unique needs of children.

Pediatric Trauma Center

When children arrive at the emergency department who are severely ill or injured, they are treated at our Level II Pediatric Trauma Center. With 12 rooms and two trauma bays specially designed to accommodate families, the trauma center is equipped with the latest patient monitoring technology, so physicians and nurses are immediately aware of any change in a child’s condition.

Covenant Children's was the first designated children's trauma center in Texas and is currently the ONLY designated children's trauma center in the region. Covenant Children's is verified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level II Children's Trauma Center and designated by the Texas Department of State Health Services as a Level II Trauma Center.

One of the foundations for Covenant Children's designation as the only children's trauma center in west Texas and eastern New Mexico is our provision of 24/7 speciality physician coverage to handle the needs of children in our region. These pediatric specialties include: Trauma Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Anesthesia, and Intensive Care. Our unique ability to provide specialty coverage from high-quality, credentialed physicians for your child in a time of crisis, day or night, is just another example of Covenant's commitment to improving care and quality outcomes for our community.
