Hospitalists
Pediatric Hospitalists staff our 39 bed general medical-surgical unit.
Pediatric hospitalists are specially trained pediatric doctors who treat
pediatric patients while they are in the hospital. They work in close
cooperation with your child’s primary care physician to ensure a
seamless, efficient, continuum of care.
Because they practice in the hospital only, these specialists are able
to see and address issues in your kids as soon as they arise. Additionally,
they are available to promptly answer questions from staff and family
members. They are familiar with hospital operations and work closely with
other members of your child’s healthcare team to provide the best
care possible.
Partnership with Texas Tech
Our Hospitalist team is staffed in collaboration with Texas Tech University
Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC).
In addition to a fully proficient medical staff, Covenant Children’s
is a teaching hospital, committed to training the next generation of medical
professionals. Evidence-based literature shows that teaching hospitals
have better patient outcomes than non-teaching hospitals. You are likely
to see a very team-based approach to care with a multi-disciplinary team
caring for your child.
As TTUHSC's primary pediatric teaching facility, we proudly partner
with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) to host medical
students and residents, training them to be the future leaders in pediatric
care. Each year we have approximately 24 pediatric residents on rotation.
Residents don't provide lower quality of care for your child as they
are closely supervised by board-certified physicians throughout their
training. In fact, we find that residents create an environment where
both student and teacher are kept on their toes and more proficient due
to their constant interactions with one another and a general environment
of learning.
