Adolescent Medicine/Eating Orders

Adolescent Medicine

Adolescent medicine specialists have extra training in the medical and emotional issues that many teens face. They're taught to deal with topics like reproductive health, drugs, eating disorders, irregular periods, mood changes, questions about sexual health, and problems at home or school.

Why choose a specialist in teen health?

Teenagers aren't adults - nor are they children... they face unique physical and mental challenges as they grow. Adolescent medicine specialists are specially trained to manage the complex care issues of adolescents and young adults.

Eating Disorders

Covenant Children's Hospital provides inpatient and outpatient services for eating disorder patients. Our program provides comprehensive medical and psychological evaluation and treatment to patients with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, avoidance restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), binge eating disorder, and related eating difficulties.

A multi-disciplinary team consisting of an Adolescent Medicine physician, a Pediatric Hospitalist, a dietitian, a licensed professional counselor, pediatric intensive care nurses, and others help ensure that we're able to care for the unique needs of eating disorder patients.

Eating disorder patients requiring hospital admission are admitted to our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit where the team follows guidelines and ordersets speciflally developed to ensure your child receives optimal care. For example, we have specific protocols for 1:1 supervision following meals (when eating disorder patients are often most at risk), counseling assessment and support, dietetic support, among many others.
