Newborn and Infant Care
Breastfeeding 101
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for
first six months of life, then combining solid foods with breastfeeding
until one year of age. Covenant Children’s Hospital wants you to
succeed in breastfeeding your child. We offer several opportunities to
help you to continue in your breastfeeding journey and make the healthiest
decisions for both you and your baby.
The Period of Purple Crying
Increased crying may be normal, but it can be frustrating to new parents.
Covenant Children’s offers The Period of Purple Crying, an educational
DVD that explains that this is a normal time in every infant’s development.

Car Seat Safety
Your child should use a car or booster seat from birth and do so as long
as possible, ensuring that the seat is switched out as the child grows.
Keep a child in the back seat, where it is safer, at least through age 12.
Pay attention to the car and seat manual to make sure installation is done properly.
