Children's Emergency Services
Don't take your child to an adult focused emergency center when you
have the choice!
Covenant Children’s offers the region’s only dedicated emergency
center for children. The Emergency Center is open 24 hours a day, seven
days a week, and is staffed by physicians and registered nurses specially
trained in pediatric emergency care. Our emergency center consists of
12 rooms and 2 trauma bays. We were the first Level II Pediatric Trauma
Center in Texas and we remain the longest running Pediatric Trauma Center
in Lubbock.
Us saying don't go to an adult-focused ED isn't just marketing
- it's important you understand what care your child is receiving.
In fact, using a standard readiness assessment tool, EDs with high pediatric
readiness have been shown to have significantly lower patient mortality/death,
with about a quarter the deaths of hospitals with low pediatric readiness.
This is due to the need for specialized equipment, policies and procedures,
staff training, etc. At Covenant Children's we are not only prepared
for pediatric patients coming to us but we even go a step further by offering
emergency department readiness assessments to regional hospitals.
When compared to adult emergency centers and adult emergency centers also
seeing pediatrics, we typically have significantly shorter waits before
your child is seen by a provider and discharged.
Covenant Children’s offers all the medical specialties your child
will need in an emergency:
- Trauma surgery
- Neurosurgery
- Orthopedic surgery
- Pediatric anesthesia

Other features include:
- All private exam rooms
- Separate triage rooms to reduce waiting times and enhance patient privacy

Obstetric Emergency Department
Covenant wants mothers who are experiencing complications to be seen right
away by an in-house, board-certified OB/GYN, who can provide care until
the patient's own doctor can evaluate the mother and baby’s
condition. Our hospitalist physicians work with your primary OB/GYN provider
to give immediate care and help make decisions about hospital admission
or discharge. To learn about the Obstetric ED please
