What makes a Children’s Hospital?
Sick or injured kids require special care.
As Lubbock's first and only licensed freestanding Children’s
Hospital, we provide medical and surgical care for children—and
only children. When your child is a patient here, he or she will be treated by specialists
who have dedicated their careers to learning about the diseases of children
and caring for children.
Not every "Children's Hospital" is a true Children’s
Hospital–even if a hospital has a pediatric service. We are Lubbock, the Panhandle Plains, and Eastern New Mexico region's,
only hospital licensed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
(CMS) as a Children's Hospital.
Many hospitals that claim to be Children's Hospitals are not licensed
Children's Hospitals - they merely offer a smattering of pediatric services within a larger
adult-focused hospital. Hospitals specifically licensed as Children's
Hospitals have to have governance, operational leadership, and ancillary
services that are unique to the children's hospital, ensuring that
resources aren't prioritized to adult services. What this really means
is that we live and breath children's services all day, every day.
We don't just dabble in it.
Our Children's Hospital gives your child access to just about every
pediatric specialty that they might need, for any type of injury or illness,
under one roof. And our staff has the pediatric-specific training, experience,
and equipment to your child and their special needs.

Covenant Children’s History
Covenant Children’s is part of Covenant Health, which has served
West Texas and eastern New Mexico for nearly 100 years. We are also the
only licensed freestanding children's hospital in Lubbock and the
surrounding area.
Covenant Children’s has evolved and grown over the years. The facility
that began as St. Mary’s Hospital was later renamed Covenant Medical
Center – Lakeside, and as of 2018 was converted to the freestanding
children's hospital - Covenant Children’s Hospital - that it is today.
We've grown from a 73 bed facility to having 275 licensed beds as of
2018. Our team of talented caregivers have made Covenant Children’s
the top pediatric medical facility in the region.
Patients & Family Advisory Council
Our Patient and Family Advisory Council is made up of former patients,
their family members, and staff. It exists to ensure our high-quality
care meets the specific needs of those we serve. This council meets regularly
to initiate and carry out improvements in patient care, outreach, and
other hospital functions.
