Orthopedic Surgery

Covenant Children's Orthopedics is led by Dr. James Gutheil who has specialized, fellowship training to care for children and teens with injuries or problems of their musculoskeletal systems (bones, muscles, and joints). The program sees everything from congenital deformities to sports medicine injuries on all areas of the body – elbows, hands, spine, pelvis, hips, knees, ankles and feet. Both surgical and non-surgical options for fractures allow the team to pay special attention to a child's special growth plate issues.

  • Distal radius and ulna fractures
  • Forearm fractures
  • Elbow fractures: supracondylar humerus fractures, lateral humeral condyle fractures, Monteggia fractures, elbow dislocations

  • Spine trauma, stress fractures, spondylolysis, spondylolisthesis
  • Pelvis fractures
  • Femur fractures
  • Knee injuries including ACL tears, distal femoral physeal injuries, proximal tibia fractures

The pediatric orthopedic surgeons, nurses and staff of the Covenant Children's Orthopedics provide expertise in diagnosis and treatment of congenital abnormalities that are present at birth, and genetic abnormalities that are passed down from parents to children.
